Angel Food Ministries - Click Here to Order
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. Through Steel Lake Presbyterian Church, individuals are able to order food/groceries which are then delivered and ready for pick-up once a month (usually the third Saturday). There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications needed in order to participate. Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78. Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe. Visit www.angelfoodministries.com for more information.
Habitat for Humanity
Steel Lake Presbyterian Church supports the work of Habitat for Humanity. During the summer and fall of 2010, Steel Lake Presbyterian Church will be joining up to eleven other churches in the Federal Way area to build a home for a family in need in Pacific, Wa (south of Auburn). The groundbreaking will occur on June 5, 2010 and the build will continue for several months. Volunteers are needed and greatly appreciated. Please contact the church office for more information.
Youth Summer Mission Trips
Every year, the youth spend at least one week in mission; whether it is building a house for people in Mexico, cleaning up the destruction of a hurricane and rebuilding homes, our youth do great work both locally and around the world.
Reach Out (Serving the Homeless)
The Reach Out Program is a mission to provide shelter and support services to homeless men in Federal Way to help them move toward self-sufficiency. Through a collaborative effort between many organizations and churches, 25 men are provided a warm place to sleep, three meals a day (dinner, a simple breakfast, and a sack lunch), an on-site director, and a case manager. By not having to worry about food and shelter on a daily basis, counseling and referral services, it is hoped that the men who participate in this program will be able to focus on more long-term solutions to get them back on their feet. Steel Lake Presbyterian Church serves as a host for the homeless men each night during the months of November, December and March. During January and February, the men are hosted by our friends at Calvary Lutheran Church in Federal Way. For more information, visit the Reach Out website.

Christmas House
Working in cooperation with many local churches, the Community Caregivers Network, and the Multi-Service Center, Steel Lake Presbyterian Church is the site of the annual Christmas House. The week before Christmas, low-income parents who have been screened by the MSC Federal Way Food Bank can "shop" for gifts for their children for free. Besides gifts of new toys, Christmas House also requests gently used family games and puzzles, with all pieces intact; new socks for all ages, infant to adult; candy and candy canes; new or gently used ornaments and holiday decorations; wrapping paper; new or gently used stuffed animals; stocking stuffer items; books for children and teens; hats, gloves and scarves; and cash donations. Every year the Christmas House serves approximately 1700 children.
