WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC

“My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing and make music
with all my soul."
—Psalm 108:1

Psalm 92 states “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High” and later that we should “Sing for joy at the works of God’s hands.” It is the goal of the music ministries at Steel Lake that all our music making be authentic worship to the Lord.

“The riches of music are so excellent and so precious that words fail me whenever I attempt to discuss and describe them. Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.”

~ Martin Luther

Chancel Choir:  Rehearsals on Wednesday Evenings at 7:30pm in the Sanctuary The Chancel Choir sings regularly in worship from September to June, as well as in festival services and sacred music concerts. From glorious classics to vibrant spirituals, this adult choir seeks to proclaim the transformational message of the Gospel to a waiting world.

Jubilee RingersRehearsals on Wednesdays at 6:00pm in the Sanctuary The Handbell Choir is made up of a mixture of experienced and less experienced ringers.  They play several times a year.  The ensemble strives to bring glory to the Lord through the beauty of their instruments, as well as through fellowship and commitment to one another.

The Psalters:  Rehearsals on Mondays at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary The Psalters is our praise band which has a long history of providing our church with inspirational music, both from contemporary Christian artists as well as putting new music to some of the great historical hymns.  If you are a musician and are interested in sharing your gifts with others we'd love to have you join us.

Chamber Choir: A 10-12 member chamber choir, singing in worship periodically throughout the year. The chamber choir is open to singers with strong reading skills and generally rehearses for about 30 minutes after Sunday morning worship services. Repertoire spans the whole spectrum of sacred choral genres, with a focus on a cappella music.

Instrumentalists: Instrumentalists in the congregation are invited to participate in worship in a variety of ways. Several times throughout the year, instrumentalists are invited to form a small orchestra to accompany the congregational hymns. Instrumental parts are frequently incorporated with choir anthems, and instrumentalists are also welcome to provide special music.

Special Music: Anyone with a musical gift to share is welcome to present special music in a Sunday morning service. This can be in the form of a vocal or instrumental solo, or as a duet, trio, or small ensemble of some kind. Our Interim Choir Director is available for music suggestions and for coaching in the preparation of special music.
