UNDERSTANDING WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT TO US
 |
The Mission of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church is to WORSHIP God.
"O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together."
– Psalm 34:3
WORSHIPING DEFINED: Showing our love and devotion to God through prayer, praise, and the proclamation of God’s word.
GOAL: All members to come to worship, not just to worship. When we attend our worship services on Sunday mornings, we are more than spectators, God is our audience to whom we offer our prayers, ascribe our praise, commit our lives, and express our love.
KEY COMMITMENTS/ACTIVITIES:
-
I will worship God continually as I remember that all of life is lived before God and should bring God praise, honor, and glory.
- I will worship God individually through daily prayer, scripture reading, reflection and devotion.
-
I will worship God corporately once a week by attending a Sunday morning service of worship.

The Mission of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church is to CONNECT with one another.
"But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him
who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body,
joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped,
as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love."
– Ephesians 4:15-16
CONNECTING DEFINED: Sharing life together by coming alongside one another and participating in the life of the church.
GOAL: We become a congregation where every member is valued, every member is supported, every member is encouraged, and every member is cared for; where everyone participates and reaches out to others.
KEY COMMITMENTS/ACTIVITIES:
-
I will commit to staying for coffee fellowship after worship to welcome newcomers, meet new people, and connect with other members of the congregation.
-
I will participate as much as possible in the life (activities) of the church, not necessarily for me, but because I want to be a blessing to others.
-
I will be present with others, support others, encourage others, walk alongside others, and allow others to walk alongside me.

The Mission of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church is to GROW in faith.
"And these are the ones sown on the good soil:
they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold."
– Mark 4:20
GROWING DEFINED: Deepening our relationship with God and becoming more like Christ by studying God’s word and exploring our faith.
GOAL: "To grow to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ" (Ephesians 4:13). To be a congregation where all are nurtured in faith, grow in knowledge and experience, and are inspired and empowered to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.
KEY COMMITMENTS/ACTIVITIES:
- I will spend some time each day reading and reflecting on the scriptures through my own personal time of prayer and devotion.
-
I will gather regularly (weekly or bi-weekly) with a small group of other Christians to read the scriptures, ask questions, share thoughts and reflections, and discuss their meaning and application.
-
I will join in corporate worship on Sunday mornings expecting to hear God speak through others; paying careful attention as I listen to the word read and proclaimed through liturgy, sermon and song.

The Mission of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church is to SERVE the world.
"So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you."
– John 13:14-15
SERVING DEFINED: Joining in God’s work in the world by serving others and demonstrating God’s love.
GOAL: For all members to discover their gifts and passions and use them to serve the needs of the congregation, the community and the world.
KEY COMMITMENTS/ACTIVITIES:
-
I will find ways I can help and serve the members and ministry of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church.
- I will serve with humility in an externally focused ministry of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church or one of our ministry partners.
- I will be a shining light and agent of transformation in my home, my relationships, my community and world.
